Celebrities and musicians react to Tom Petty’s hospitalization

UPDATE: Oct. 2, 2017, 2:06 p.m. PDT: TMZ is now reporting Petty is still alive on a do not resuscitate order after a cardiac arrest left him unresponsive, but “is not expected to live through the day.” The Los Angeles Police Department initially confirmed Petty’s death to CBS News but then reversed course, tweeting “the LAPD has no information.”

News of Tom Petty’s reported death shocked the world Monday as it’s still reeling from a terrorist attack during a concert in Las Vegas on Sunday. Petty was 66 years old. 

With over 40 years in the music industry, Petty touched and inspired countless listeners with his timeless songs. The prolific guitar player, songwriter, and singer continued to play and create music, and was on tour with his band Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers at the time of his death.

Celebrities and musicians touched by Petty’s lifelong work reacted to his possible death on Twitter, sending out heartfelt messages and feelings of grief on social channels.
