Photoshop, Gimp, and Paint are solid photo editors, but they can be hard to use if you’re a casual photographer. Now, the team behind Pixelmator is here to help. Today, the company released new software called Pixelmator Pro, an advanced photo-editing app built for Mac.
Pixelmator Pro is an upgraded version of the company’s existing software that includes upgraded tools and a streamlined workflow. Some of the new tools are also intelligent: The software can learn to straighten photos by detecting the horizon, accurately select and repair objects, and automatically name each of your layers.
This app isn’t just for editing, either: You can also use it to create original art.
The new Pixelmator includes over 100 brushes for sketching and painting, with over 20 blending modes to boot. You can draw with paintbrushes, watercolors, crayons, markers, pencils, and more, and it’s easy to save and share your favorite brushes with your friends.
There’s just one catch: the price. Pixelmator Pro is $59.99 in the Mac App Store. To download it, your computer must be running macOS High Sierra (10.13). If you’re on a tighter budget, the original Pixelmator is available for only $14.99 for Mac, and $1.99 for iOS. It’s worth noting that both are significantly cheaper than Adobe Photoshop, which costs $9.99/month on the desktop.
Pixelmator Pro isn’t quite strong enough to replace Photoshop for most professionals, but for people who don’t want to pay a monthly fee or deal with cumbersome menus, it’s a great option. Making your photos look gorgeous has never been quite so easy on a Mac.
