When the Bronx rapper’s single “Bodak Yellow” topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart on Monday, the song became the first solo song by a female rapper to hit number one in almost 20 years. It also knocked Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do” off the top spot.
Fellow musicians, including Nicki Minaj and Missy Elliot, reached out via Twitter to congratulate Cardi B’s triumph.
But it was T. Swift who presented Cardi B with maybe the sweetest gesture.
Although Cardi B’s single took the crown from Swift, the “Shake It Off” singer, well, had no trouble shaking it off.
Swift sent Cardi B a beautiful bouquet of flowers for her achievement. The rapper posted a picture of the sweet gift on Instagram with the caption: “Sooo beautiful and lovely. Thank you @taylorswift for the flowers…and I love your freaking music.”
“Bodak Yellow” continues to reign supreme on the charts. The last solo single from a female rapper to top the charts was Lauryn Hill’s 1998 hit “Doo-Wop (That Thing).”
